Intergroup Report

Intergroup Chair Joe C. has provided the following report to be delivered to the Northern California Al-Anon ASSEMBLY which meets May 19 in Redwood City.  The Assembly is held twice a year and is a "business meeting" for all Group Reps. and District Reps. and others in service positions, from all over Northern California.

D 6-10 INTERGROUP REPORT: May 2018

Hi Everyone!

Our Al-Anon Information Services (AIS) office, which is the literature depot for Districts 6-10, is piloting opening up on one Saturday a month for members that may not be able to visit the office during the week.  We tried out the idea last weekend, May 12, and it was a great start to the idea.  We plan to open on a few more Saturdays in the coming months and monitor the interest/attendance.

We have a number of Public Outreach and Institutions updates:

Our Public Outreach & Institutions Coordinator Louise organized a celebration at the Solano County prison that was a huge success.  The inmates were given donuts and Starbucks coffee, which was a huge treat for them as they don’t get donuts and are only provided with instant coffee.  There were some people in attendance that had been going to Al Anon events in the prison since they started in 2009.
A similar celebration event is being planned for Folsom prison in the summer.  Overall, the team is reporting that prison attendance at meetings is on the rise!
Our Institutions volunteers in D10, including Gail, are reporting very positive momentum on getting Al Anon into both the Auburn and Roseville prisons.  Discussions are progressing well and we believe that success is right around the corner.
Thanks to Louise, Gail and the rest of the D6-10 members providing service to those in institutions!

The Share and Care newsletter has successfully been moved out of print and to an e-version only.  And it is growing!  The recent versions have had over 25 pages of information and news and it is a great resource for all the members.  Thanks to our new Editor, Andrea for all the hard work.  We are looking for stories from our members to include in future Share and Care editions.  Please email share.and.care.6.10@gmail.com for details and information.

Spring Fling was held in February and was an outstanding event.  Our coordinators Rachel and Laura did an excellent job of starting the planning well in advance.  Thank you to all of the volunteers who contributed to the success of the event!

We have a number of open service positions in Intergroup.  Any assistance that we can get in encouraging service involvement would be appreciated.  The positions have been open for over 6 months.  There is also a need for volunteers at the AIS office to answer phones and box up orders for shipping.  Please spread the word to help us fill these positions.

One recent success of service has been the reinvigoration of our after-hours phone support line.  We now have volunteers in place that take calls when people in need call the office when it is closed.  Thank you to all of the volunteers that have brought back this valuable service!

Lastly, the employee that we hired last year to run the AIS office, Patty, continues to do an outstanding job.  She remains instrumental in running the office, making improvements and being a willing and active participant to help move things along, including helping with coordination of the after-hours support line volunteers mentioned above.  Thank you to Patty for all she does!

Thank you!
