For those interested in knowing more about the functions of the Intergroup, read on....

“Intergroup” might well be thought of as the short version of “Al-Anon Information Service (A.I.S.)
Intergroup Coordination Committee” because that would be a pretty good description. It is a
committee of volunteers from Al-Anon Family Groups in Districts 6 - 10, covering all of the greater
Sacramento area and beyond. It holds monthly meetings to coordinate the activities of Al-Anon groups
in shared activities aimed at “carrying the message” for Al-Anon and Alateen throughout its geographic
area.  

INTERGROUP FUNCTIONS

  • Oversee the operation of the Literature Depot
    • Storefront and mail order sale of Al-Anon and Alateen literature
    • Al-Anon “Hot-line” phone services:
      • Daytime
      • After hours 
    • Provide literature for sale at Al-Anon / Alateen events
    • Produce printed meeting schedules for the area
  • Coordinate providing Al-Anon meetings in correctional and other institutions housing people who
cannot attend regular Al-Anon meetings.

  • Coordinate assistance for Al-Anon groups to obtain required insurance coverage for certain
events

  • Coordinate support for the Alateen program and training  Al-Anon members to serve Alateens
within their program, for leadership and safety

  • Maintain an Al-Anon informational website for the Al-Anon members and newcomers throughout
the area

  • Edit and publish the “Share and Care” Al-Anon Newsletter 
  • Coordinate Al-Anon public outreach activities to increase public awareness that there is help
available for the friends and families of alcoholics

  • Coordinate Al-Anon’s participation in large events such as “Spring Fling” and the California State
Fair information booth
